George

Part of the Scorpions family of academies, founded by Hanshi Martin Roothman in 1996.

Garden Route

Where Scorpions started.

Martin Roothman founded Scorpions here in 1996, after moving down from Welkom. George is the original club, and it is now run by the Grobbelaar family.

It is the best equipped Scorpions club for the codes it trains, with its own cage for MMA, a boxing ring for kickboxing and Muaythai, and competition mats. Two Brothers Combat Institute, started in 2011 by brothers Sors and Nantas, shares the floor for Muaythai, MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Please confirm before relying on this Everything on this page comes from the George club’s own website, which has not been updated since February 2017. The people, the address and the disciplines are very likely still right. The training times and the fees are not published here on purpose, because nine-year-old prices would be worse than none. Phone or message the club and they will tell you what it costs today. A business directory also lists them at the Wellness Centre, York Street rather than the Nedbank Centre, so check the address before you drive out.
